TCA Athletic Updates

November 18, 2019
By Joe Hamstra

Earlier this year, our fall sports teams (cheer, football, volleyball) had the opportunity to volunteer at Miracle League in Weatherford.  As you can see from the pictures below, we had a lot of fun and met some new friends. Miracle League is a baseball league for children with physical, cognitive and/or emotional disabilities. It was amazing to see the display of leadership and Godly character that each of our student-athletes showed as they interacted with the Miracle League players and families that day. Thank you to all who came and volunteered - you made TCA proud!

Fall Recap:

As we are well into the month of November, TCA’s fall sports have either finished, or are wrapping up their regular seasons. The Cross Country team concluded their season on a high note. TAPPS hosted the State Cross Country Championship at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco. TCA finished 12th place as a team; led by seniors Joel Jeffers (19:42- 35 overall) and Jacob Camp (20:27- 51 overall). Rounding out the remaining varsity team is Malen Baldridge, Micah Chesney, Bronson Pope, Isaac Droguett and Max Perales. On the girls side, we have three individual runners who also competed well at the State Meet. They are, senior Emma Chrane (15:41-39 overall), and sophomores Sydney Diomede, and Emma Perales.

The TCA Volleyball teams competed in the always-tough TAPPS 4A-District 1.  This season they placed 4th in district. Although the team did not qualify for the playoffs this year, the team was honored with several All-District individual awards. Both JV Volleyball teams fought hard throughout the entire season, with the JV Blue team going undefeated in District. Great job, ladies!

Our Football team finished up their regular season and earned a position in the playoffs.  Post-Season accolades will come out after the TAPPS All-State Meeting in December.

The TCA Varsity Cheerleaders have done a great job supporting TCA Athletics so far this year. The hard work you put in for our programs behind the scenes doesn’t go unnoticed, so a big thank-you to Coach Kaz and all of the cheerleaders for everything you do for TCA and TCA Athletics! This year, our TCA Competition Cheer Squad will travel to Belton, TX for the TAPPS Cheer Championships on November 18-19. Good luck ladies!

The fan-favorite TCA Drumline has also done a great job supporting TCA Athletics so far this year. Thank you to the directors, students, and parents for traveling far and wide to provide our fans with top-notch sideline entertainment at every game. The Drumline traveled to Waco, TX at the end of October to compete in the TAPPS Drumline Championships. They had a great showing at the championships and were able to improve their scores from last year. Great job to all drumline members and directors.

Winter Sports Outlook:

The girls and boys basketball teams have started their season. On the girls' side, we have a new head coach. Coach Amanda Watts has taken over the reins and looks to improve on the successful playoff run from last year. Also, new to the girls coaching staff is Colton Culberhouse where he will be the JV head coach/varsity assistant.

On the boys' side, Coach Dayton Sheridan is looking for our guys to compete well in a difficult district, and have a successful run in the playoffs/post-season. Coach Sheridan is assisted by Jeff Anderson.

The swim program at TCA continues to grow with excitement and participation.  The team is headed by two returning state placers (Maddie Harless and Payton Alberts).  The regional swim meet will be held late January in Mansfield.
