TCA Clay Target Team Wrapped Up Their 2019 Season

Trinity Christian Academy Clay Target Team (CTT) wrapped up their 2019 season by competing in the YESS State Clay Target Team Tournament and SCTP Texas State Championships. With no returning varsity members for the 2019 season, the young team relied on the leadership of sophomore Jack Sims, freshman Wes Roddie and freshman Merril Stanfield. All three athletes have been members of the TCA Clay Target Team since their 6th grade year and have posted season high scores in the disciplines of skeet, trap and sporting clays. 

At YESS State, several athletes obtained personal high scores for the team including Roddie with a 99 in skeet which won him 1st place in JV man. Max Skogsberg scored a 92 in skeet which includes his first perfect round of 25 in competition and earned him 2nd place in Intermediate man. Additionally, 11 individual medals were awarded at the tournament. This includes:

  • Merril Stanfield: 1st place JV lady in skeet; 3rd place JV lady in trap
  • McKenna Sims: 1st place intermediate lady in sporting clays and trap; 3rd place intermediate lady in skeet
  • Marla Stanfield: 1st place intermediate lady in skeet; 2nd place intermediate lady in sporting clays and trap
  • Kate Roddie: 2nd place intermediate lady in skeet; 3rd place intermediate lady in sporting clays and trap

At SCTP, the TCA CTT brought home 15 individual awards and 3 squad honors. The Intermediate/Advanced squad of Nash Carlson, Cash Hicks, and Wilson Winchester won 3rd place squad in skeet and sporting clays. Individual awards include:

  • Marla Stanfield: High Overall for Ladies’ Intermediate/Entry (L-I/E); 1st place L-I/E in skeet and sporting clays; 
  • McKenna Sims: 1st place Ladies’ Intermediate/Advanced (L-I/A) in trap and skeet; 3rd place L-I/A in sporting clays
  • Kate Roddie: 2nd place L-I/E in skeet; 3rd place L-I/E in trap
  • McKenna Kelley: 2nd place L-I/A in sporting clays/ 3rd place L-I/A in trap and skeet
  • Merril Stanfield: 3rd place Ladies’ JV in skeet and sporting clays
  • Merritt Brenner: 3rd place L-I/E in sporting clays and skeet
