Elementary Summer Reading

Dear Parents,

Can you believe that summer is already here?  Summer is a great time to encourage family reading.  Studies show that most students experience a loss of reading skills over the summer, but children who continue to read actually gain skills.  To encourage the habit of reading this summer, the Library has prepared a list of books that your child can read this summer.    We are including an extended list this summer – one for the grade that your child is going into as well as one that is combined for two grades each (ie. 1st and 2nd). These lists will be found on our TCA website.

We feel that our students should read for the benefit of reading, but we want to add an extra incentive.  Each student who reads the required number of books and turns in a completed, signed Summer Reading Form to the Library by September 8, 2017, will receive a ticket for a free ice cream during an upcoming lunch.  Also, each student will be entered into a drawing for one of three Book Fair gift cards – two cards @ $10 and one card @ $20.  These gift cards will be good for our school book fair which will take place in the library during the week of September 18th.

Since these are AR books, students may take the AR quizzes if desired by coming by the school office, which is open during the summer for AR testing on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10-2; please call before coming to make sure that the computer lab is open and ready for you.  The AR quizzes are not required for Summer Reading.

Summer reading is for fun and to encourage the love of reading – it is not required!!

Please contact me if you have any questions.
