Athletic Director

Responsibilities & Position Overview

The Athletic Director reports directly to the secondary principal and is responsible for all aspects of school athletic and physical education programs to include:

  • Develop and supervise athletic and PE programs that support the school's Christian and educational mission, values, and goals.
  • Work alongside other school leaders in a spirit of cooperation and innovation, continually implementing and maintaining a strategic vision for Christian school athletics, physical education, and discipleship programs of excellence.
  • Clearly and consistently communicate with a variety of stakeholders (students, parents, coworkers, vendors, officiating organizations, other schools, etc.)
  • Prepare and implement an annual departmental budget.
  • Ensure that TCA athletic and PE programs are staffed with properly trained and experienced coaches and teachers equipped to serve as Christian role models and provide spiritual growth opportunities for TCA students.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to personal spiritual and professional growth.
  • Oversee professional development activities for athletic department staff, including regular evaluations.
  • Oversee the distribution, collection, storage, upkeep, and replacement of school athletic uniforms and equipment.
  • Ensure that adequate facilities are secured and prepared for athletic contests.
  • Be familiar with school and department handbooks, reviewing and revising handbooks annually as needed.
  • Be familiar with all requirements and procedures of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools and other organizations as needed.
  • Coach sports as needed. At this time, TCA is seeking to fill the roles of head varsity football coach and head girls basketball coach. These positions are not necessarily tied to the Athletic Director Role.
  • Other duties as needed or as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be practicing Christians, active in a Bible-believing church body and prepared to serve as a sound Christian role model and mentor for students, parents, and other TCA staff members. Must be a Christlike servant leader who sees coaching in our Christian school as a ministry.
  • Strong organizational management skills and ability to provide professional leadership for staff and students in a stable and growing college-preparatory Christian school.
  • Strong relational and communication skills with a demonstrated background of successfully working with student athletes and coaches.
  • Willingness and ability to foster and maintain a collaborative environment, working closely with colleagues and parents.
  • Bachelor's degree required with preference given to candidates holding a master's degree and ACSI or state teaching certification.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in an educational environment as a teacher and coach on the MS/HS level, ideally in a Christian school setting. Preference will be given to candidates with leadership experience as Athletic Director or similar roles.

  • TCA is accredited K-12 with the Association of Christian Schools International and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
  • TCA competes as a 4A school (Division III football) in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.
  • In Fall 2022, our school will open Phase 1 of a new $7M athletic complex featuring a fieldhouse, football field, and eight-lane track. Future stages of development include facilities for softball, baseball, and tennis.

Head Varsity Football Coach

The Head Varsity Football Coach is a part-time, stipend position that could be expanded to full-time status if combined with additional administrative or teaching roles (as available). This role reports directly to the TCA Athletic Director* and is responsible for all aspects of TCA football programming to include:

  • Develop and supervise varsity and sub-varsity football programs that support the school's Christian and educational mission, values, and goals. 
  • Work alongside other school leaders in a spirit of cooperation and innovation, continually maintaining and implementing a strategic vision for an overall Christian school athletic and discipleship programs of excellence.
  • Clearly and consistently communicate with a variety of stakeholders (students, parents, coworkers, vendors, officiating organizations, other schools, etc.)
  • Assist as needed in school off-season training activities outside of the regular football season.
  • Assist in ensuring that the TCA football program is staffed at all levels with properly trained and experienced coaches (and volunteers as needed) who are equipped not only to coach, but to serve as Christian role models and provide spiritual growth opportunities for TCA students.

All teaching fields/certifications will be considered.  A demonstrated passion and commitment to Christ-honoring excellence in athletics, as well as previous coaching experience, is preferred.
